If I am graduating high school in 2011, may I register for the NFAA’s YoungArts ARTS Program?
No, you need to wait and register in April of 2010.
What are the deadlines?
The final deadline is October 23, 2009, 5:00 pm EST . After you pay your non-refundable fee you will be issued a YoungArts ID number which is used on all the materials submitted for judging. The deadline for submitting your materials to be received is October 30, 2009, 5:00 pm EST.
Why do I have to pay a fee?
Registering for the YoungArts program is a serious undertaking. Participation requires significant time and effort to prepare the materials needed for adjudication. The fee is to dissuade students from participating if they cannot actually fulfill the requirements, especially if they are registering for multiple categories. The non-refundable fee only covers a portion of the cost of processing your audition/portfolio materials. None of the fees are used to fund the cash awards. Simply registering and signing your registration form entitles you access to approximately $3 million in college scholarship opportunities which are reserved exclusively for YoungArts participants.
May I register in more than one discipline?
Yes. You may register in one or more categories in up to nine disciplines, but a nonrefundable fee is required for each category in which you register. Fee waivers only apply to ONE category; any additional categories are full price.
Is it possible to receive an award in more than one discipline?
Yes. There is not a limit to the number of awards you can win. However, if you are chosen as a YoungArts Finalist in more than one category, you may only participate in one discipline while in Miami.
Do I have to major in my category/discipline to win an award?
No, you do not have to major in your category/discipline. You do not even have to go to college to win a YoungArts award.
Do I have to attend the colleges on your Scholarship List Service in order to receive an award?
No, you do not. This is an additional service provided by colleges on our Scholarship List Service. These colleges provide over $3 million in scholarship opportunities exclusively for YoungArts participants.
What does it cost to register for the YoungArts program?
Are there any hidden costs?
The fee structure is $35 for online registrations.
Other expenses that you might incur are the cost of your audition/portfolio materials – for example, the recording that you make or the DVD that you submit for adjudication.
If you are invited to participate in YoungArts Week, all expenses are paid by NFAA (air travel within the 50 United States, meals, transportation in Miami and lodging).

What is PSA?
PSA stands for Presidential Scholars in the Arts. NFAA's YoungArts program is the exclusive nominating organization for this award. NFAA nominates up to 60 YoungArts Finalists each year to the Commission
on Presidential Scholars for consideration; 20 are then selected to be Presidential Scholars in the Arts. You must be a high school senior graduating between January 1 and August 31, 2010 AND a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for the

I am going to be 18 on December 1, 2009 and I won a YoungArts award when I was 17. Can I register again?
If you participated in a YoungArts Week in Miami, you are not eligible to register for the YoungArts program a second time. This is to allow another qualified participant a chance for a YoungArts Week
experience. For example, YoungArts Honorable Mention or Merit Award Winners are eligible to register again if they are 17 or 18 on December 1, 2009.
Do you know of any other organizations or foundations that provide similar programs for other age groups?
The Web is the best place to search for organizations supporting the Arts. Other sources of information about financial aid are scholarship reference books, which can be found at a bookstore or a library.
